Catwoman, real name Selina Kyle, is a female superhero (superheroine) published by DC Comics, and she first appeared in Batman No. 1 in 1940, during the Golden Age of Comic Books, which was from 1938 to 1956.
Catwoman was created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger, who had previously created Batman, who debuted in Detective Comics No. 27 in 1939.
Catwoman has been depicted as an anti-heroine and became Batman's best known love interest, with many stories depicting their complex love-hate relationship.
Catwoman is a Gotham City burglar who typically wears a tight, one-piece outfit and uses a bullwhip for a weapon.
Debuting as "the Cat" in Batman No. 1 in 1940, but not on the cover, she was a mysterious burglar and jewel thief, and at the end of the story it was revealed that she was a young attractive woman, having disguised herself as an old woman during the story and been hired to commit a burglary.
Although she does not wear her iconic cat-suit, the story establishes her core personality as a femme fatale who both antagonizes and attracts Batman.
It is implied that Batman may have deliberately let her get away by blocking Robin as he tried to leap after her.
She next appears in Batman No. 2 and No. 3 -- and later in many other comic books, including multiple solo series up through the present.
Catwoman made her live action debut in the 1966 Batman TV series, portrayed by Julie Newmar; she was also portrayed by Lee Meriwether in the movie adaptation and Eartha Kitt in the third season.
Catwoman later appeared in Tim Burton's 1992 Batman Returns movie, portrayed by Michelle Pfeiffer.
A solo Catwoman movie was released in 2004, in which she was portrayed by Halle Berry.
Anne Hathaway portrayed Catwoman in Christopher Nolan's 2012 The Dark Knight Rises movie.
Catwoman has also appeared in the 2014 to 2019 TV series Gotham, in which she was portrayed by Camren Bicondova and Lili Simmons.
Catwoman was voiced by Zoë Kravitz in the 2017 animated movie The Lego Batman Movie, and in 2022 Zoë Kravitz portrayed Catwoman in Matt Reeves' live action movie The Batman.
In a future Catwoman live action TV show or a live action movie, is there an actress or actresses that you want cast as Catwoman and as one or more co-stars, and if so, who?
