When it comes to how your fretting hand addressed the guitar, there are a number of right answers and a few wrong ones. Both are based on principles of ergonomics. Your playing can be easier or harder depending on how you address the guitar for different chords and sounds.
Making music is intensely physical and paying attention to how the body is involved in making sound is easily the most important part of succeeding (or failing).
If you have trouble making certain chords or sounds on the guitar, look to these essential basic techniques and make the guitar come to you, rather than adapting your playing posture to where it happens to be.
There is no faster way to improve your playing than to attend to these basic techniques and principles. But, as with all things, they are only useful if they solve a problem. No problems? No need for new techniques!
