Chasing the Last Storm: 10 Hours to Asahidake for Powder🔥

Описание: 10 hours driving, 2 days, 1 night. The result: 9 laps of steep, deep powder in Central Hokkaido.

⭐️Watch Next:    • The Aftermath of Niseko's Winter Mayhem🗑️

When the forecast called for 30–40cm of overnight snowfall in central Hokkaido, we knew we had to move fast. With winter winding down, this could’ve been the last big storm of the season — and we weren’t going to miss it.

On a total whim, Quinn and I packed the car and hit the road from Niseko, driving 5 hours toward Asahidake — a place we had visited just two weeks earlier on a bluebird day. This time, we were chasing something much different: deep, stormy, untouched powder.

We booked a hotel on the way, arrived in the afternoon, and woke up the next morning to everything we had dreamt of. Heavy snowfall blanketed everything, and the mountain was in full whiteout mode. Visibility was close to zero, but we took our chances and grabbed a day pass for the Asahidake Ropeway.

What followed was one of the best powder days of the season. Despite the conditions, we stumbled upon a steep zone loaded with fresh snow — and somehow, no one else seemed to find it. We lapped it nine times in total before our legs gave out and the ropeway shut down for the day.

Completely wrecked but absolutely stoked, we jumped back in the car and made the 5-hour drive home to Niseko.

This is what chasing storms is all about.

📍 Location: Mt. Asahidake, Hokkaido, Japan

❄️ Located in the Daisetsuzan National Park, Mt. Asahidake is part of a vast volcanic mountain range known for its geothermal activity, deep powder snow, and remote, untamed beauty. While it’s a popular backcountry skiing destination, it’s also known for rapidly changing weather, demanding terrain, and true wilderness vibes — making it both a rewarding and intimidating place to explore.
