This is the second generation of the simmer ring on the Trangia burners, previous to this the simmer ring was permanently attached to the burner (and before that it didn't exist), then came along this clip-on hinged flip-top version, this was then replaced by a drop-on swivel simmer cap, we still see that type on today's current models.

This type of Trangia with the clip-on simmer ring didn't see a long production life, as a result they are much harder to come by than their modern day sibling.

Additional information about the 'restoration':

Some people viewing the video may question my use of Brasso to clean the burner due to the cleaning product containing ammonia (which can be bad for brass). It is true that ammonia can cause damage to brass when exposed to it for long durations or on a very regular basis. In this particular situation the Brasso contains very small amounts of Ammonia and the contact with the brass is only for very short periods of time before being completely removed. Overall the risk of damage to the Trangia burner is incredibly low - most users risk damaging their Trangia through improper use by doing such things as storing methylated spirit inside the burner for long periods of time or screwing the lid closed before allowing the burner to completely cool.

Brasso may not be completely risk free, but my family has been using it on an annual basis for over a century to clean the same brass door knobs and brass fittings around the farmhouse with no negative effect, and I myself have been using Brasso to polish my Trangia burners every 3 years or so for the last 25, all still working fine :)
