As a Black woman in America, my life has been shaped not only by my choices but also healthcare inequality and systemic bias. The decade of jigsaw puzzle compartmentalized medical care, dismissed/minimized symptoms, and unequal treatment led to a delayed diagnosis that not only affected my health but also altered the course of my life.
In this video, I briefly share what it’s been like to live through years of undiagnosed and misdiagnosed conditions, long and unexpected surgical recoveries, neurological and musculoskeletal problems, vision damage, medical negligence, and mold toxicity.
Now that I’m in my 60s and starting over, I’ve realized that the pain and mental anguish I’ve endured is medical trauma from a system that was supposed to “first, do no harm.”
I created this channel as a form of talk therapy and healing for myself, in hopes of reaching other women over 50, especially Black women, who are suffering disproportionately from similar medical problems and treatment.
May my transparency shine a light on our pain, spark conversations that bring hope, healing, and the comfort in knowing that you are not alone. 🫶🏽✨🙏🏽
Welcome to the Mind of RaQia. 💜
