Nearer, My God, to Thee (Organ Choral Prelude) | Markus Dreja | Dutch Organ Sound

Описание: My German friend ‪@MarkusDrejaOrganist‬ has just released his second book, Orgel Klangkosmos, featuring no fewer than 15 beautiful choral preludes on well-known hymns alongside a few lesser-known gems. Every single piece is crafted with care — truly beautiful throughout.

Today I’m sharing the very first prelude from the book: Nearer, My God, to Thee (in German: Näher, mein Gott, zu dir). Many will recognize this hymn from the moving Titanic scene, where it accompanies one of the film’s most emotional moments. I love it very much and wrote my own chorale prelude over it. You can listen to that over here. I used a drône in my own piece, a lying note as a red line throughout the main melody:    • Mediation  on "Nearer, My God, to Thee" | ...  

I know Markus has a soft spot for the Dutch organ sound, so in my interpretation I engaged all tremulants to give it that gentle, breathing character. I hope you enjoy this musical moment as much as I did playing it.
