Thank you, Jane, for showing us all the ways that we could be using the PISA Creativity results, that placed Australian children 4th in the world, to seek out an expanded understanding of creative thinking and creativity based on an arts education perspective, and for leading such a lively discussion around your findings.
The PISA reports and articles published between 2019 and 2024, and the report detailing the results published 18 June 2024, show that PISA defines creative thinking and creativity through a particular lens and their definition changes over time.
Surprisingly, when the results were first published, the news that Australia had come 4th in the global rankings was not shared in any of the major newspapers or in press releases by the Ministers for the Arts or Education. Perhaps creative thinking and creativity is not valued or fully understood by the political class in Australia, and this may have a material effect on education policy.
In this webinar, Jane helps us critically analyse the way that PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment from the OECD) defines creative thinking and creativity for their global assessment, along with how the test results were discussed in Australia.
