I headed to Bentley Park for this Sheffield & Hallamshire Sunday Cup Quarter-Final as Scawthorpe Athletic (Doncaster Sunday League) took on Westville FC (Mexborough Sunday League) with a place in the semi-finals on the line.

Before kick-off, I spoke with Westville Secretary Rob, who was still buoyant despite their FA Sunday Cup exit last week, and James from Scawthorpe, who was just relieved to get a bare 11 players out on the pitch today — already setting the tone for a gritty cup tie.

🌬️ On the pitch, windy conditions made things difficult, but that didn’t stop the tackles flying in. It was a competitive, physical game with both sides fully committed.

Westville struck first midway through the first half when Owen Fieldsend broke the deadlock from a corner. They then doubled their lead with a second goal that Scawthorpe were convinced was offside, but the goal stood, adding to the frustration.

Just before half-time, a strong challenge saw Scawthorpe furious that an elbow had been used, but the referee produced only a yellow card, sending both teams into the break frustrated.
0–2 at half-time.

Scawthorpe came out fighting in the second half and pulled a goal back within 10 minutes, piling pressure on Westville and giving themselves real hope. But as they pushed forward, Westville struck again with a third goal to kill the game off.
