South Korea, U.S. & Japan Launch Trilateral 'Freedom Edge' Exercise Amid Rising North Korean Threats

Описание: US: In a show of unity and military readiness, South Korea, the United States, and Japan have launched a three-day joint military exercise, "Freedom Edge," designed to bolster defense cooperation in response to escalating threats from North Korea. The exercise, which began Wednesday, will involve advanced fighter jets, maritime patrol aircraft, and the U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington. The trilateral drills come on the heels of North Korea’s recent intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) test, which drew strong condemnation from Seoul, Tokyo, and Washington. The "Freedom Edge" exercise is a direct response to North Korea's provocations, including its missile launches, as well as reports of North Korean troops engaging in combat operations within Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine. The U.S. State Department confirmed the disturbing development, highlighting the growing concerns over North Korea's expanding military ties with Russia. As part of the drills, the three nations will conduct comprehensive maritime missile defense training and cyber defense operations, further enhancing interoperability between their armed forces. The trilateral military cooperation is also in line with agreements made during a 2023 summit, which formalized plans for annual joint exercises between the three countries.
