Syria and Kurdish Forces Reach Major Integration Deal, Ending Clashes Over Oil-Rich Territories

The deal appears to be a significant setback for the SDF, which governed Syria's northeast semi-autonomously for over a decade. Syrian troops captured key oil fields, hydroelectric dams, and Arab-majority provinces, including Deir al-Zor and Raqqa. Under the agreement, SDF forces will merge into the defense and interior ministries as individuals, not units, and hand over border crossings, oil fields, and prisons holding Islamic State fighters. US envoy Tom Barrack called it a pivotal moment. Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and SDF head Mazloum Abdi are scheduled to meet on Monday in Damascus.
