David Grandstaff began working in the construction industry at age 18, when he gained experience setting rebar on highway-heavy projects. It was the start of a decades-long career. After earning a construction management degree at the University of Northern Iowa, he went on to hold positions in estimating and other leadership roles.
In March, he added a new title to his resume: regional director of AP Midwest for Adolfson & Peterson (AP), a local general contractor with an 85-year history of building everything from schools to health care facilities.
In this interview, Grandstaff talks about his construction journey, his new role with AP, opportunities and challenges in the construction economy as a whole and more.
