ESFAHAN, IRAN — Iranians are starting to get violently angry at the way Iran’s Islamic regime has mismanaged the country’s water resources, and Iran’s increasingly severe water shortage could soon topple the regime.
Bloomberg reports that last month’s violent protests against Iran’s intense water shortage are set to get more violent, and it could very well topple the Islamic regime that has ruled Iran for decades.
Across Iran, rivers and dams are drying out while once fertile farmlands are turning to dust.
Citing climate scientists, Bloomberg says Iran’s increasingly intense droughts are only going to get worse, and it says short-sighted economic management by Iran’s regime is the reason for the panic-inducing water shortage.
According to Bloomberg, the crisis started with policies implemented after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Newly isolated from the West and facing invasion by Iraq, Iran's new clerical leadership wanted self-sufficiency and food security.
They encouraged rural families to start farming, providing them with heavily subsidized water.
A dam-building spree followed and Iranians started digging wells and using water like never before.
At the same time new industries like oil and steel were expanded, which simultaneously sucked more water and also caused water and soil pollution.
Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi acknowledged the water crisis on December 5 and said officials had been instructed to “get to the heart of the problem and work on it.” He said that, “alongside prayers, we also have to make and implement plans.”
