Hi everyone, Francine here from IMG Career Branding.
If you’re an international medical graduate planning to work in Australia, you’ve probably heard different versions of what the “pathway” looks like.
In this video, I’ll walk you through the Standard Pathway, which is the most common route for IMGs who haven’t completed their training in a recognised country.
The process usually starts with the AMC Part 1 (CAT MCQ) exam — that’s your medical knowledge assessment.
Next comes your English test, such as IELTS or PTE.
Once you’ve passed AMC 1 and met the English requirement, you become eligible for registration under the Standard Pathway.
However, you can only formally apply to AHPRA once you have a job offer, because AHPRA requires supervision details from your employer.
At this stage, many IMGs begin applying for junior doctor roles, hospital positions, or observerships to gain local experience while preparing for AMC Part 2 (Clinical).
After successfully completing both AMC exams and the required supervised practice, you can progress to general registration with AHPRA.
Follow this channel for more practical guidance on CVs, LinkedIn, and job preparation for IMGs in Australia.
