Manohar Joshi washes the verdict by Bombay High Court for seeking votes in the name of religion

Описание: The Supreme court this week upheld the election of the Maharashtra Chief Minister Mr. Manohar Joshi to the state assembly in 1990 washing the earlier verdict by the Bombay High Court which had declared his election null and void for allegedly seeking votes in the name of religion.

He says, "This particular judgment has certainly given us a sense of confidence and given us scope to propound our views in a frank candid manner though I would also simultaneously emphasize that I entirely endorse the Supreme Court's viewpoint that religious bigotry of any kind or castigating another religion is wrong it comes within the mischief of electoral corruption."

The apex court while disposing of a batch of election petitions, however, held the Shiv Sena chief Mr. Bal Thackeray guilty of corrupt electoral practices while campaigning for another candidate during 1987 Maharashtra assembly elections.
