Hi everyone!!
📌Definition of Co-polymerisation::
Mixture of two or more different monomeric units.
Examples:: Buna-s & Buna - n
📌 Buna-s::(GRS or styrene rubber)
Bu stands for butadiene (Monomer)
na stands for sodium (catalyst)
S stands for styrene (Monomer)
#Buna-s stands for the composition of the monomers and catalyst.
It is produced by the copolymerization of butadiene with styrene by using sodium as a catalyst.
📌 Properties::
It is a strong and tough polymer.
It is vulcanised by sulphur.
It is a good electrical insulator.
It has high load bearing capacity.
📌 Uses::
It is used for making footwear components.
It is used for making tyres,wires,cable insulations etc...
📌 Buna-n::( GR-A or Nitrile rubber)
Bu stands for butadiene (Monomer)
na stands for sodium ( Catalyst)
N stands for acrylonitrile (Monomer)
Buna -n stands for the composition of monomers and catalyst.
It is prepared by copolymerization of butadiene with acrylonitrile by using sodium as a catalyst.
📌 Properties::
It is also strong and tough polymer with light weight.
It is also vulcanised by sulphur.
It possess excellent resistance to heat, sunlight,oil,salts and acids because of the presence of - CN group in the structure of Buna- n.
📌 Uses:
It is used for making gaskets,foams, printing rollers etc...
Thank you for watching...
