We are now learning that agents in our environment to which we are exposed very early in our lives can actually (re)program our epigenome in such as way as to increase our susceptibility to diseases decades later when we are adults, including heart disease and cancer.

Cheryl Lyn Walker, PhD, is the Director of the TAMU Health Sciences Center Institute of Biosciences and Technology. She was awarded the Cozzarelli Prize for Biological Sciences from the National Academy of Sciences.
