"Blau Äuglein" [Little Blue Eyes] is a march by the American composer Theodore F. Morse, with the melody of his song "Blue Bell" in trio (that is the part which starts here at 1:29). "Blue Bell" was originally created as a "march song & chorus", with lyrics written by Edward Madden (1878-1952); shortly afterwards it was also published as a waltz and as a "march & two-step". It was translated in German by certain M. L. and published as "Blau Äuglein, Marsch & Two-Step über das bekannte Soldatenlied von Edward Madden" [Little Blue Eyes, March & Two-Step Over the Well-Known Soldiers' Song by Edward Madden] and as "Blau Äuglein (Kriegers Abschied), Soldaten-Marsch" [Little Blue Eyes (Warrior's Farewell), Soldiers' March]. It seems that this march variant was made for the German market, or at least I didn't manage to find the info on it being published in the USA. It is interesting to mention that the first German arrangement was made by Obermusikmeister Mikolai Przywarski of the Königin-Augusta-Garde-Grenadier-Regiment Nr. 4 (notes published by C. M. Roehr, 1904). At the time this recording was made, march was being repopularized in Germany by the nationalist paramilitary forces and it was additionally known as "Ehrhardt-Marsch" (referring to the Naval Brigade "Ehrhardt") and as "Stahlhelm-Marsch" (referring to organisation "Steel Helmet"). This particular German recording, however, carries the original, neutral title.
