Eli Friedman: Hi, I'm Dr. Eli Friedman. I'm a prosthodontist with One Solution Dental Implant Centers. Today. I'm going to talk about people always ask, [inaudible] the dental implants hurt than[?] full mouth dental implants hurt? It would be unfair to say that there's no discomfort for a surgical procedure. There is a procedure that's being done. However, we manage discomfort in several ways. What's really interesting about the tools that we have and technology in 2019 is we're able to manage discomfort and pain using various technological processes, some older and some newer, that allow the patient to have an overall better experience than ever before. In general, these procedures in our practices are done under IV sedation or general anesthesia. That means that the patient or you, if you're the patient, is sleeping through the entire procedure. The beauty of that is that there's no discomfort or awareness, and the amnesia effects from the procedure are profound. People don't remember the procedures, and that's the beauty of the anesthetic.
After the procedure's done, the technology that we use in our practice is a long-acting anesthetic called Exparel, which is quite interesting because that anesthetic allows the patient to stay numb for up to three days. The first 24 to 48 hours after the procedure is typically when most of the discomfort occurs from the procedure. So by using Exparel, which we use on all of our long, bigger procedures and implant patients, allows the patient to stay numb during that three day period of time where they're able to actually not feel any discomfort. By the time the discomfort kicks in, typically they're still numb. After three days, certainly there's also pain medications that can be taken afterwards. So from the initial procedure to the postoperative time right afterwards, where the patient's able to actually stay numb for during the peak period of discomfort all the way through postoperatively, three days later, it's very unlikely that after that three day period of time, patients are going to experience discomfort. So with the technology that we have and the ability to give the patients teeth on the day of surgery, you're coming in, you're being put to sleep, you're having surgery done under general anesthesia, which is very comfortable with all the professionals in the office, including an in-house anesthesiologist, following through with Exparel anesthetic long-term for the next three days, and then any subsequent postoperative pain management afterwards.
Overall, makes it quite a straightforward and simple, painless transition from the surgical phase all the way moving forward into the restorative phase. So that's what I wanted to address today. Answer some of the questions that we see on Facebook and people posting about pain. Understanding, how much pain is there involved in procedures? If your doctor is using proper pain management techniques, advanced technology, anesthesia, there's really no reason for a patient to have any extensive pain or discomfort today time with any of these procedures, even though they're advanced procedures. We do a lot of these procedures in our office day in, day out, and we have very nice success rate of recovery from patients that are able to attest to the fact that they're not having a lot of long-term discomfort out of these procedures. I hope I answered that question related to pain and understand. Please visit our websites for any further questions related to dental implants at onesolutionnow.com. Thank you very much. Have a great day.

It's natural to wonder about the potential pain or discomfort that may accompany a full-mouth dental implant procedure. However, I'm pleased to inform you that advancements in dental implant technology, coupled with modern anesthetics and sedation techniques, have significantly minimized any potential pain or discomfort during the process.
During the implant placement procedure, we ensure your comfort by utilizing local anesthesia to numb the treatment area. This ensures that you will experience minimal to no pain during the surgery. For those who may feel anxious or desire further relaxation, we also offer sedation options to help you feel calm and at ease throughout the procedure.
