I order you to stop being popular!

So according to palace sources, the Sussexes should enjoy the leeway now because it will all end the second William comes to power.
Let me sit with that for a moment.
William is apparently furious. Again. Still. Always. This time because Harry and Meghan dared to partner with the World Health Organization for a two day humanitarian visit to Jordan. They visited refugee camps. They met amputee children evacuated from Gaza. They saw programmes their foundation has funded. The British Ambassador thanked them publicly.
And William is raging. Screaming, crying and throwing up, as one commentator put it, because Harry and Meghan can do whatever they want without his permission.
That is the heart of it. Permission. William believed he would have control over the spare. It was his promised right as the heir. And he does not have it. Harry left. Harry is free. Harry does not need to ask William for anything.
And it is breaking William's brain.
The palace briefings this week have been unhinged. They say the trip shows a lack of discipline within the royal family. They say Harry is bullying his father into getting what he wants. They say Meghan is trying out her next role as ambassador to the world, like a combination of Princess Diana and Angelina Jolie. They say people inside the palace are genuinely concerned that despite the fact the Sussexes are no longer royals, they are just going ahead and doing what they want anyway.
Going ahead and doing what they want anyway. As if that is scandalous. As if private citizens doing charity work requires royal approval. As if the World Health Organization needs to check with Kensington Palace before inviting anyone to visit refugees.
But here is the part that truly reveals the delusion.
William's allies say he is determined not to let the same confusion and lack of discipline continue into his children's generation. They say the Sussexes should enjoy this leeway now because it will all end when William is king. He will strip their titles. He will ban them from the UK. He will put a stop to all of this.
And my question is very simple. Stop what exactly?
What does William think he can actually do?
Harry will still be Harry. Meghan will still be Meghan. Organisations like the WHO will still want to partner with them. Countries will still invite them for visits. Their foundation will still fund programmes. Their star power will still exist. Their popularity will still exist. Their freedom will still exist.
William cannot ban the United Nations from working with private citizens. William cannot order the World Health Organization to drop the Sussexes. William cannot stop foreign governments from providing security or hosting visits. William cannot make international charities refuse Archewell's money.
He is not the king of the world. He is not even king yet. And when he is king, his power will be ceremonial. He will cut ribbons and give speeches and shake hands. He will not have the authority to dictate what private American citizens do with their time and resources.
The heir to the throne is spending his energy on punishing his brother for doing charity work. That is his priority. That is his focus. That is what keeps him up at night.
Not the uncle who may have been cultivated by Russian intelligence. Not the victims of Jeffrey Epstein. Not the institution's credibility collapsing in real time.
Harry and Meghan visiting a refugee camp. That is what William cannot tolerate.
And he wants us to believe that when he is king, discipline will be restored. Order will be maintained.
The Sussexes will finally be stopped.
Stopped from what? Being kind? Being generous? Being invited by global health organisations to highlight humanitarian crises?
William can take the titles. He probably will. And Harry and Meghan will still be Harry and Meghan. They will still be successful. They will still be free. They will still be rich. They will still be invited everywhere. They will still do the work.
Stripping a title does not strip talent. Stripping a title does not strip charisma. Stripping a title does not strip the WHO's phone number from Archewell's contacts.
William's threats reveal his impotence, not his power. A man with real authority does not need to constantly announce what he will do when he finally has control. A man secure in his position does not rage for three days because his brother visited a refugee camp.
The leeway will end when William is king. That is the threat.
And the answer is simple. No it will not. Because the leeway was never William's to give.
