This video discusses the misconceptions about the side effects and risks of TCAs and explains that the differences between them and newer drugs are much smaller than is generally supposed. Coupled with the fact that amitriptyline and clomipramine are almost certainly more potent antidepressants for melancholic-type depression than any of the newer drugs, this should influence practitioners to use them more frequently and sooner in the treatment algorithm.
