Major flaw in the sand scaping at Walcott

Описание: I’ve been making videos on the Walcott sand scaping project for a while, as from day 1 ive never thought it was going to be a success sadly. Using sand as a sea defence on a beach with a serious coastal erosion problem , to me has never made sense. It cost 20 million pounds to cover the beach in sand dredged off Corton in Suffolk. Once completed , the first storm was around 3 weeks later. Lots of sand was lost and the previously covered groynes reappeared. Now fast forward a further month, if that, and we have torrential rain. Just look at the state of the beach now! Huge chunks of sand have been washed away and the concrete path we used to be able to walk on is suddenly back! Before agreeing to this scheme and paying 20 million , did no one actually go to the beach and look properly? No, it seems not. If they had, they would have noticed all the drainage tunnel systems right along the road that take away the water from the road. A little google search or a local tv search would show endless clips over the years of the sea making its way up onto the road. This very effective drainage system took the water off the road and away from the shops and cafe along the beach at Walcott and put it back on the beach. As soon as the torrential rain arrived, the drainage system once again did its job, put the water onto the beach! Only this time with devastating results to the newly added sand. What an absolute mess! A complete disaster in just a matter of weeks. We haven’t even got to winter yet, which will brings endless storms making huge waves and battering the beach hourly ..... if there’s any sand left by the end of December 2019 I’ll be very surprised.
Of course , the groynes are all terribly broken now from the heavy machinery that did the sand scaping. These will need to be replaced in time and all the sets of metal steps down to the beach that had stood for years... are now a mangled mess. You can see this in one of my photos in this clip. To think someone was paid for this project to be thought up in the first place .... let alone then others agreeing to it being undertaken , is just mind boggling, but hey, what do I know !?!?
