My dad, Joseph Parma, passed away on April 11,2025, at the age of 89, with his family, friends, staff, and the Sisters at St. Joe’s, by his bedside.
Joseph was a young man of 17 coming to this country from Italy on a ship destined for New York City. Shortly after landing, he met my mom, Elizabeth, and married a year later. He became an American citizen and worked at Woodbridge Pottery for 50 years. They bought a house in Perth Amboy after their marriage where they remained until shortly after my mom passed at the age of 74. He was lonely and broken after she left so living with me and my daughters was best at the time. He stayed with us for six years. We lived behind St. Joseph Senior Home, where he met many wonderful people that took their walks in front of our house. He wanted to move there to enjoy the company of people his age, enjoy activities and attend mass every day. We made that happen and he enjoyed 7 wonderful years there; he considered them to be his extended family. His dying wish was to leave the hospital and return to St. Joe’s to say his final goodbyes. He did and it was beautiful.
He is survived by me, his oldest daughter Doreen. His youngest daughter, my sister, Tina predeceased him at the age of 57. He was a loving husband to my mom, a wonderful father to his 2 daughters and the best grandfather (Pop), to his 4 grandchildren, Renee, Daina, Stephanie, and Nicholas. He will be missed by all of his family and friends at St. Joseph’s where he made lasting memories in his final chapter of life. I will be forever grateful to everyone at St. Joe’s for all they did to make my dad feel loved and cared for every day.
God Bless all of you for giving our loved ones the respect and dignity they deserve after giving a full life to society and those around them.
