A Short Hike to Racehorse Falls

This short but pretty trail takes you through iconic Pacific Northwest forest, rich with moss, huge green leaves, and tall trees alongside Racehorse Creek.
In just under a half mile we were below the falls with a lovely view of all 4 tiers cascading down the rock face. There you can scramble up closer if you like, or mill around the pretty creekbed looking for fossils.
The fossils here are in Chuckanut Formation sandstone and mudstone, and were brought here primarily by a large landslide in 2009. Definitely check out this blog, which has been a great source for info on geology: https://nwgeology.wordpress.com. We found leaves all over in the rocks along the creekbed. It was really fascinating, although Luna and Frodo would disagree.
This land is the traditional territory of the Nooksack people.
