This is the process of making non-violent Silk. Kalita who is from an Assamese tribal community South West of Guwahati in Assam, north east India makes this silk for us. The silk worm (caterpillar) eats the castor leaves, era in Assamese. It takes around 21 days for the baby egg of the caterpillar to become mature and stop eating. Then it will start to find a place where it can hibernate. The caterpillar will then try to find a hidden place and start building a cocoon and then stay there. It then changes from a caterpillar into a pupe. After this the pupe will transform into a moth. The moth will make a hole in the cocoon and fly off. Then the male and female will mate and lay the eggs. And then the cyclic process begins once again.
