Shwe-gu-gyi Hpaya Shwe-gu-gyi temple was built by King Alaungsithu in 1141 A. D. According to the records it was completed in seven months.It is built on a high platform.topped by a sikhara or curvilinear square-based dome and a projected porch (mandapa) or vestibule facing north-Decorations of green glazed tiles and plaques are found. Inside ple are two carved doors, mural paintings, and two inscribed stone slabs set orthern wall. On the southwest part of the interior wall is a stone inscription ping the merit of King Bayinnaung in 1551 A.D. There is a staircase built inside the western wall to climb to the top part. Once stucco figures of devas adom the outside wall of the platform and remnants can be still seen in the southern part Shwegugs temple was also called Nan-u paya as it is located close to the king's palace. The excavated Bagan period palace site lies in the northern and western part of the temple
