We look after more than 75,000km of gas pipes across our network and we’re committing to ensuring we carry out essential repairs and maintenance on these pipes with as little disruption as possible to the local community.
This is why we've been trialling new robotics technology that can inspect and repair our pipes in the easiest, quickest and most efficient way for our customers.
In 2013, we won Ofgem’s Network Innovation Competition (NIC) with a bid to develop robotic techniques that will allow gas distribution networks to identify and seal leaking joints, a common source of gas leakage, in a live gas pipe from a remote location. This development will also enable us to introduce new inspection techniques that support our work to assess and manage risk of pipe fracture in our large diameter gas mains.
Watch to see what this world-leading project involves.
