His true passion was questioning.
Through the "Socratic method," he'd engage in dialogues, asking relentless questions that exposed inconsistencies in people's beliefs. This "gadfly" approach, meant to sting and provoke critical thinking, often ruffled feathers.
His ideas, emphasising virtue and self-knowledge, resonated with some, like Plato, his most famous student. But others saw him as a corrupter of youth and a threat to Athenian traditions.
Accused of impiety and corrupting the youth, Socrates faced trial. Despite the opportunity to escape, he chose to remain loyal to Athenian law and defend his beliefs. He was sentenced to death by hemlock poisoning, a fate he accepted with stoicism.
