My second diving trip, this time exploring the waters of Baja California, Mexico, and also my second underwater video experience
This trip was a series of firsts: playing with sea lions, facing the majestic bull sharks, and getting lost among thousands of swirling sardines, to name a few.
In La Paz, the dives with the sea lions were unforgettable. The young sea lions, curious and playful, would circle around, biting everything: the strap of our mask, our suit, our hands or even my camera.
In the south, at Cabo Pulmo, we had the chance to dive with bull sharks, surprisingly not so scary, but the adrenaline rush is there, no doubt.
Last dives, this time with big schools of fish, their size is impressive and the movement they create is extraordinary, probably the most beautiful thing I have seen underwater. Passing among them is an extraordinary feeling.
For this second underwater filmmaking experience, my equipment was a budget-friendly solution (for this kind of gear), but with a small upgrade since the last trip.
The footage was captured with a Sony A7IV (mark 4), with this time, 10 bits color, 4.2.2 etc etc. For the lens, a Sony 16-35 f2.8 and for the housing, a Seafrogs with the 8 inches dome. No light this time, this was not necessarily a problem on shallow dives with sardines, sea lions etc, but deeper, with schools of fish, I would have liked to have something to light all that up… next time!
For this second version of the edit (the first one was a “basic” vacation editing), I wanted to have a little more fun and create a “fake” documentary. This was a challenge, writing a script with shots which were not at all planned for that was not easy.
