楞嚴咒，共有427句，被尊為「咒王」。當時，佛陀為了救阿難尊者免於邪術，率眾比丘持誦楞嚴咒，而佛的佛頂放出百寶無畏的光芒，光中湧出千葉蓮花，蓮花上坐著一位如來，就是「帝殊羅施」。還有恆河沙數的內密菩薩和金剛神，擠得滿滿的虛空。
《楞嚴咒》中說：「十方如來因此咒心得成無上正遍知覺。末世眾生，有能自誦，火不能燒，水不能溺，大毒小毒所不能害。所有惡咒，皆不能著。能令破戒之人，戒根清淨。無智慧者，令得智慧。一切罪障，猶湯消雪。不久皆得悟無生忍。命終之後，隨願往生十方淨土。又持誦此咒，或佩帶身上，求男女得男女，求長命得長命，求果報圓滿，速得圓滿。亦能保護諸修行者入三摩地，更無魔怨來中相惱害。」

The story goes like this: Ānanda was bewitched by a demonic spell from a girl named Matanga. Seeing this, the Buddha was so anxious that he jumped up and hurriedly sent Manjushri Bodhisattva with the Śūraṅgama Mantra to rescue him. From then on, the Śūraṅgama Mantra has been known as the most powerful mantra, the king of mantras. Although it is the longest part of the "Śūraṅgama Sūtra," it concerns the survival and prosperity of the entire Buddhist teachings. As long as someone in the world is reciting the Śūraṅgama Mantra, it signifies that the true Dharma is still present, and all obstacles can be broken.
The Śūraṅgama Mantra holds 427 lines and is revered as the "King of Mantras." Back then, to save Venerable Ānanda from demonic deception, the Buddha led a group of monks in chanting the Śūraṅgama Sūtra. The Buddha's crown emitted an invincible radiance from which emerged a thousand-petaled lotus with a Tathāgata named "Teish-ra she" seated upon it. Countless secret bodhisattvas and Vajra deities were seen, filling the empty space completely.
The "Śūraṅgama Sūtra" states: "Through this mantra heart, the Tathāgatas of the ten directions attained the supreme, perfectly enlightened knowledge. In the latter days, if someone can recite it by themselves, fire cannot burn them, water cannot drown them, and no great or small poison can harm them. All evil spells cannot affect them. It can purify the roots of those who have broken precepts, and the unwise can gain wisdom. All their karmic obstacles melt away like snow in hot water. Soon they will attain the patience of the uncreated. After death, they will be reborn in the pure lands of the ten directions according to their wishes. Moreover, reciting this mantra or wearing it on one's person, they can obtain children if they wish, extend their lifespan if they desire it, and quickly achieve perfect fruition in all aspirations. It can also protect practicing individuals entering samadhi from any disturbance or harm by evil spirits."
