One of my favorite childhood home movies! My dad is behind the Sony Digital 8 HandyCam, capturing my wonderful experience of exploring The Hands-on House Children's Museum in Lancaster, PA at the age of three! This videotape was shot in 2001, about a year after the museum moved into its current facility. This was back when they used to have a spaceship (which later became a pirate ship; I believe it's where the construction site is now), the grocery store was so big the post office was literally inside it, and the farm exhibit wasn't afraid to have two touchscreen computers, which were still a novelty in those days. I'm pretty sure the only thing that is still original is the treehouse. This museum felt so magical to me when I was little, almost as if I was on a TV show like Reading Rainbow or Blue's Clues.
The fake cow with the milking machine reminded me of the classic Reading Rainbow episode The Milk Makers, which I watched for the first time the exact same year this video was made! You can listen to my full analysis of that 80s TV masterpiece on the Kids' TV and Me! podcast:
