The very first Chinese settlers to Los Angeles beginning in 1850 as well as many later immigrant Chinese tended to live segregated in Chinatowns.
The video is a presentation of Old Chinatown, New Chinatown, China City, and City Market/San Pedro Street. Some factors why there were so many enclaves are: racism, segregation, civic renewal in the 1930s including the building of the Los Angeles Union Passenger Terminal, known as Union Station; and further renewal with the razing of the Vicente Lugo Adobe in 1951.
