Coeur d'Alene city leaders are considering a massive new development project called "Coeur Terre," which would develop 442 acres on the western edge of the city.
The project would take about 20 to 30 years to finish, and people living in the area are worried about heavy traffic and construction this development could bring.
They say this plan is being rushed without enough studies.
"That's probably the largest concern out of all these people in this development is that amount of traffic going up and down these roads," said John Hurley, who lives in west Coeur d'Alene.
After attending Coeur d'Alene's city council meetings, Hurley has more questions and concerns about the project.
"Coeur Terre doesn't need to be something that should be pushed through quickly," he said. "There should be more studies, more time, more traffic evaluation that goes into it. I just don't think they've done the amount of studies that they should've done."
Coeur Terre would provide over 2,000 housing units, city parks, two school sites, and commercial use sites.
"We are excited about this project, brings a lot of long term housing," said Brad Marshall, Senior Planner for J-U-B Engineers.
Representing the Kootenai County Land Company, Senior Planner Brad Marshall says there are still changes to make.
"We've heard concerns from council, concerns from neighbors, we try to address those in that agreement," Marshall said.
Changes include reducing the number of houses going into the project. The Coeur d'Alene City Council will hold another meeting in early March to give final approval.
"This is a huge project. Take your time and do the appropriate studies," Hurley said.
