Описание: AFSPA To Be Removed From Northeast? Amit Shah's Big Announcement | Hari Prasad Journalist

For decades, the Northeast has been one of India's most sensitive regions, with security concerns, insurgency, and special laws like AFSPA shaping daily life. But now, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has made a major announcement that could change the future of the region.

Speaking at an event in New Delhi, Amit Shah said that AFSPA, the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, could be withdrawn from almost the entire Northeast by next year. According to him, the region has witnessed a dramatic improvement in the security situation over the past several years.

Shah highlighted that since 2019, the government has signed 12 peace agreements with different groups across the Northeast. These agreements, combined with stronger governance and development initiatives, have reportedly led to an 80 percent reduction in violent incidents.

The Home Minister said that only one or two states may still require AFSPA, while the rest of the Northeast could become free from the law. If this happens, it would mark one of the biggest changes in the region's modern history.

But that wasn't the only major development.

Amit Shah also attended the signing of a historic agreement between the Central Government, Assam, and Nagaland. The tripartite MoU aims to unlock oil and mineral exploration in disputed areas along the Assam-Nagaland border.

For more than three decades, exploration activities in these areas remained stalled because of jurisdictional disputes. Now, with both states coming together, over 1,000 square kilometers of resource-rich land could finally be opened for development.

According to Shah, this agreement has the potential to increase oil extraction capacity by nearly ten times. He even claimed that a single oil field in the region could contain resources worth more than ₹15,000 crore.

The government believes that tapping these reserves will strengthen India's energy security and reduce dependence on imported oil. It could also generate employment, infrastructure, and economic opportunities across the Northeast.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed the agreement and said it reflects the Centre's commitment to resolving long-pending disputes through dialogue and cooperation.

Supporters of the government see these developments as proof that peace and development are gradually transforming the Northeast. Critics, however, say the real test will be whether these promises translate into lasting stability and benefits for local communities.
