The first challenge of the day involved getting to Bristol as due to flooding the M5 was closed. We eventually start the day at Bristol Temple Meads where the two Castles started their journey to Plymouth. As the train was scheduled to leave from Platform 6 this was most ideal as it afforded the best composition. However, the late arrival into the station meant that the platform was switched to 11 which was not ideal. I am videoing from a very busy four lane road bridge so unfortunately there is some background noise.
We then move on to Rattery Bank where the weather was sunny but with a very strong wind which unfortunately did cause some problems with smoke drift but the sound was awesome. For the return we chose Dainton Bank at a location close to Coombe Fishacre and using two microphones produce the most awesome sound. I was very surprised that we were the only ones at this superb location but I guess Hemerdon would draw the crowds. The final location was Tiverton Parkway just after dusk which concluded a long but memorable day.
I hope you enjoy this video and thanks to the Vintage Trains Team for operating this railtour.
