Shivakumar have stepped directly into the electoral arena, holding key meetings with local leaders and families of potential candidates. During their visit, both leaders met the family of former minister H. Y. Meti, indicating that the party is giving first priority to the Meti family for the ticket. However, the CM also clarified that the final decision on the candidate will ultimately be taken by the Indian National Congress high command.

Adding further intrigue, Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar also visited the residence of Mallikarjun Charantimath, which has triggered intense political speculation. Many observers believe this move signals that the party is keeping alternative options open if the ticket cannot be finalized within the Meti family.

Interestingly, in the previous 2023 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election, Charantimath contested as an independent candidate and reportedly played a key role in influencing the election dynamics in the region. Now the Congress leadership is reportedly urging him to support the party directly.

The Congress leadership is determined to secure victory in Bagalkot, and multiple strategic discussions are underway to finalize the most suitable candidate for the crucial by-poll.
