But as the judge repeatedly asks why the Kirbys were at the Vanderhof house, tensions rise and emotions come to a head. Grandpa, attempting to help Kirby, says it was to talk about selling the house. But when Alice, Tony's fiancee, has an outburst and reveals that the Kirbys were there to meet with her, the true reason for their visit is exposed. Alice has been spurning Tony because of how poorly she has been treated by his family, and the Kirbys' true intentions are finally revealed.
