Описание: One of the foremost representatives of the Kirana Gharana, Vidushi Hirabai Barodekar was born in 1905, into a family of musicians. She received her taleem initially from her mother Tarabai, and later on from such stalwarts as Balkrishna Bua Kapileshwari, Shankar Bua, Faiz Muhammed Khan, Gauharjan, Vaze Bua, Govindrao Tembe and Ustad Abdul Wahid Khan. She started performing on stage in 1930, after which she rose to meteoric heights of fame. She became a recording artist quite early in her career. She toured extensively all over the country performing to raving audiences and participated in all the major music conferences, National Programmes, Radio Sangeet Sammelans etc. She also toured Africa and China and was chosen to sing 'Vande Mataram' from the Red Fort on Independence Day, in 1947. Her gayakee reflects the quintessential features of the Kirana Gharana, with melodiousness and the slow unfolding of the vilambit khayal being the hallmarks of her style. She was also equally proficient in thumri, Tarana, Natya Sangeet and bhajan. In 1970, the Government of Indian conferred upon her the Padmabhusan for her outstanding contribution to Indian Classical Music. She received the ITC Award in 1978. and was inducted as a guru with ITC Sangeet Research Academy during the initial years of the Academy. Vidushi Hirabai Barodekar died on November 20, 1989.
