One of the largest bank heists in German history is under investigation after thieves drilled into a bank vault and stole valuables worth tens of millions of euros, police said.
The robbery took place in the western city of Gelsenkirchen, where investigators believe the suspects used a large industrial drill to break through a thick basement wall during the Christmas holiday period.
More than 3,000 safety deposit boxes were forced open, affecting around 2,700 customers of the local bank. Authorities say the total value of the stolen property is estimated at approximately €30 million.
