Описание: Cinema International Corporation (CIC) was a film distribution company founded by Paramount Pictures and Universal Pictures on April 9, 1970 to distribute the two studios' films outside the United States, as a response to declining movie-going audiences and national antitrust laws. It even operated in Canada and the Caribbean Basin before those territories were considered part of the "domestic" North American market. CIC was registered in England and Wales, but was headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The company began operations on January 1, 1971. In 1973, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios closed down its distribution offices and became a partner in CIC, which took over international distribution for MGM's films; however, United Artists took over the North American distribution of MGM films. In 1981, MGM purchased United Artists, which had its own international distribution and sales unit. However, CIC refused to let MGM drop out of the venture at the time, which led to MGM merging UA's international distribution and sales unit with CIC, setting the stage for the reorganization of the company as United International Pictures.

Walt Disney/Buena Vista also distributed its films through CIC in Italy (inherited from Universal) until 1987 (under UIP). Additionally, they distributed Buena Vista releases in Brazil and West Germany during the 1970s until the mid-1980s. CIC also distributed Warner Bros. releases in South Africa before the studio moved to Nu Metro.

CIC Video was a home video distributor owned by Cinema International Corporation (CIC) and its successor United International Pictures (UIP), and operated in some countries by local operators. Outside of the United States and Canada, it distributed films by Universal Pictures and Paramount Pictures, UIP's partners. DreamWorks films were added to the company output in 1998 (which were released through DreamWorks Home Entertainment), as the fledgling studio had a worldwide video distribution deal with Universal.

In 1999, CIC Video was dissolved when Universal pulled out in favor of its then-newly purchased PolyGram Filmed Entertainment's home video unit (PolyGram Video), which was then promptly renamed Universal Pictures Video. Paramount would retain CIC Video, which would then be renamed as the international division of Paramount Home Entertainment.

United International Pictures (UIP) is a joint venture between Paramount Pictures and Universal Pictures that was founded to release the two studios' films outside the United States (including its territories), Canada and the Caribbean Basin. It also had international rights to films from DreamWorks Pictures (which had international releases handled by UIP through Universal from 1997 to 2005, and would later be owned by Paramount/Viacom from 2005 to 2008) and independent filmmakers.
