Learning songs, melodies, and solos by ear is an essential part of learning the guitar. By analyzing these ideas we can break them down and find new ways to make them our own.
Grant Green is one of my all-time favorite guitarist for his ability to blend together jazz vocabulary with a deep rooted blues feel. We're going to look at three of his lines, analyze the harmony, and come up with new ways to use the concepts we learn.
We'll look at the following concepts:
Basic altered scale ideas
Diminished 7th arpeggios
Outlining II-V-I's
Repeating ideas in minor 3rds
