The Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco) is working to set up the Kolkata Gate at New Town on the main arterial road. Welding work is now going on. Officials said that the two smaller arcs will be lifted and aligned to the arcs already in place to complete the viewers' gallery ring. Two of the four arcs constituting the ring have already been erected, each weighing about 65 metric tonne. Officials said that the authorities have been working round the clock through the nights of Friday and Saturday. The visitors gallery and restaurant will be surrounded by glass , which will be part of the wall. From where you see a lot of parts of New Town , Rajarhat and Kolkata .
 
It is a type of Welcome gate and is built by HIDCO, under the government of West Bengal. The design was finalised by calling for submission of designs through a public notice in web sites as well as newspaper advertisements. A committee headed by Architect Dulal Mukherjee was formed which evaluated the designs from various architects from around the country. The design by M/s Vector Designs, a Pune-based architecture firm was recommended by the committee. A work order will soon be issued now that the design has been accepted by the Board of Directors of Hidco. I have asked Vector Designs to submit a time-table too so that we will know when the construction will start after going through the formalities of BOQ, RFQ, RFP, LOI etc.
