In this webcast, Simon Barratt, Product Manager Foam at Viking, and John-Olav Ottesen, CEO of Fomtec, discuss about the market trends, standards and latest developments with fluorine free foam systems. The webcast includes two real fire tests, showcasing the effectiveness and burnback resistance of fluorine free foam concentrates.
Poly- and per- fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a very large group of widely used man-made organic chemical substances. They are used in the manufacture of many products such as medical devices, semiconductors, textiles, paints, as well as firefighting foam agents.
PFAS and PFAS-based substances are extremely persistent in the environment. Environmental concerns are leading to ongoing regulative changes, which in turn are leading to reductions or elimination of the use of PFAS-based firefighting foam concentrates such as AFFF or AR-AFFF in both emergency response, and in fixed fire protection systems. The change to fluorine free foam concentrates as the environmentally responsible alternative is in most cases not a "drop-in" replacement.
Viking and Fomtec believe that the discussion cannot only be about changing the foam concentrate. Associated system components must work in harmony and have independent approval or certification. This demonstrates real performance - thanks to 3rd-party witnessed fire tests - and gives peace of mind to end users, authorities having jurisdiction and system integrators.
