In this video Marc Whitehead, Board Certified Social Security Disability Attorney, explains Compassionate Allowances. Claimants who have impairments that are clearly covered as disabilities. This allows the Social Security Administration to determine disability without having to collect a lot of medical records that can take a long time to get. Instead of making severally disabled claimants wait even longer to receive their benefits the Compassionate Allowance Process allows them to get their approval fast.
Every year roughly 150,000 people have their claims processed as either Compassionate Allowance or the Quick Disability Determination Process, a process very similar to Compassionate Allowance.
While this sounds easy, there is no one way that Social Security decides on what constitutes a Compassionate Allowance condition. They can compare your conditions to their list of compassionate allowance conditions to see if they fit, seek advice from scientific and medical experts and also consider research from the National Institutes of Health.
As of December 6, 2012 there were over 200 conditions on the list of Compassionate Allowance Conditions.
