Today’s #ThyroidThursday is a listener question - what would cause low T3 and high rT3?
This scenario would exemplify slowing down of the metabolism and the increased deactivation of converting T4 to T3.
If this person is on no medication, we would consider this a cell danger response (CDR) and there’s likely inflammation in the body.
If they’re on medication, they’ll also exhibit CDR along with inflammation, and perhaps their dose is higher than it needs to be. (note: I don’t prescribe medication, but I may encourage the patient to talk to their prescribing doctor to adjust the dose).
You’ll need to figure out what’s causing this cell response and the load your body is bearing. Is there excessive stress or trigger for this inflammatory response? Once you know what is causing this response, you can work to reduce or eliminate it.
Make sure to watch the video to hear more details about what kind of stressors could cause this, how you might struggle to recover if the stressor isn’t eliminated, and the steps beyond that you should take.
