Rayner, 25, took a leave of absence from Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) to pursue this project. Today, 12 of his smart food waste trackers are installed at hotels, central and catering kitchens.
Food waste accounted for one of the 5 largest sources of waste in Singapore. The National Environment Agency (NEA) recently launched a year-long battle against food waste.
“I saw a lot of organisations doing amazing work, taking ugly fruits and vegetables to the soup kitchen. But I turned to technology because technology is scalable. I could implement and deploy that solution across the globe,” said Rayner. His next goal? To use this technology in cruise ships, airlines, hospitals and farms.
