The government has announced changes to benefits, including Universal Credit, and how people can claim them.
Work and pensions secretary Liz Kendall has set out the welfare reforms which she said would save £5bn by the end of the decade. Speaking in the House of Commons today (March 18), she said that the current system is 'failing the very people it's supposed to help'.
It follows reports of major changes to disability benefits which was said to have caused concern among backbench Labour MPs.
But Ms Kendall confirmed that Personal Independence Payments (PIP) will not be frozen or means-tested as previously thought.
She told Parliament that the way people are assessed for disability benefits would change while other benefits would be merged.
The Labour minister also announced changes to Universal Credit including the introduction of a 'permanent above inflation' increase.
