Day two of the Paris fashion shows saw a little taste of the exotic as the catwalk was transformed into a jungle-inspired circus by Alexander McQueen for Givenchy.

Appropriately staged at Paris' Cirque d'Hiver (Winter Circus), the Givenchy collection was full of wild colours and feathered headdresses mixed with McQueen's sharply tailored styles.

The resplendent rain forest backdrop for the Givenchy autumn and winter collection was in typical style for the fresh and always innovative McQueen.

On the second day of the Paris fashion shows, Alexander McQueen presented his new extravagant haute couture collection for Givenchy.

It was certainly not a coincidence that Alexander McQueen chose the Cirque d'Hiver in Paris for his show.

The theatre, located in one of the trendiest areas in the capital, hosts circuses and other shows.

And Sunday's McQueen collection had all the colour and extravagance that the audience would expect in the circus ring-turned-catwalk.

The show opened with a Lady Godiva look-a-like perched on a white horse wearing little more than thin gauze and a sash of flowers.

"Endogeneous, Russian and Amazonian", as the show was called, was McQueen's colourful backdrop to present his latest designs for the new season.

The set was a jungle, complete with birds singing underneath a thumping drum beat.

Guests seats around the stage had the feeling they were in a zoo.

The show was hardly reminiscent of the time when Hubert de Givenchy was designing the couture collection.

Sometimes, the outfits resembled Vivienne Westwood's Victorian dresses and hairstyles, but most of the show was focused on Amazonia.

Feathers, embroidery, lace and clear fabrics were the main elements in the outfits.

Models were dressed, but sometimes only half-dressed.

Featured were McQueen's trademark sharp tailoring with shiny, fitted suits.

But the jungle motif quickly took the lead, with feathered headdresses matched up with glittery, flowing dresses.

A truly tribal ensemble consisted of a purple dress hidden under a vibrant shawl made of leaves and yellow palms that created a glorious mane around the model's face.

McQueen also broke with tradition in the idea of a typical wedding dress - his twist on the bride's attire consisted of a pair of white trousers and a cloak.

At the close of the show, McQueen came out to accept the applause of an audience that was highly entertained.

He wore an all white suit alongside his fashion show bride and waved to the crowd, the ringmaster taking the circus stage with his well-trained performers.
