Title: Cosmic Shadows and Cosmic Structures: Unlocking the Late-Time Universe with the CMB
Abstract: As CMB photons travel from the surface of last scattering to us, their paths and energy are altered by the intervening cosmic structures. These interactions leave rich, non-Gaussian imprints on the small-scale cosmic microwave background (CMB), turning it into a powerful probe of the late-time Universe. I will review the key physical processes shaping these signatures, with a focus on gravitational lensing and the Sunyaev–Zel’dovich (SZ) effects. I will show how combining such measurements allows us to probe velocity fields at cosmological distances and gain insights into the distribution of gas in the Universe. I will also present recent measurements of CMB weak lensing and discuss their implications for the current tensions between cosmological parameters inferred from the early and late Universe.
