Rare catch of Prague Emergency Medical Services (Czech abbreviation: ZZSHMP) ambulance 110 responding with the Whelen Martin (2-) tone. More details below 🔽
The current ZZSHMP ambulances have a Whelen siren and 2 Whelen SA315 speakers (each has 100W). Depending on the siren model (or system) Whelen offers up to 70 different and even country specific tones. Unfortunately I don't know what siren model the manufacturer installed on Prague's units.
The sirens on most of the ZZSHMP ambulances are programmed with Whelen's standard wail, yelp and piercer tones but a few units have different tones programmed. For example the martin tone or mechanical wail instead of piercer as the 3rd tone.
To me this catch is a perfect example why common wail, yelp (and other) sirens are superior over 2-tone sirens. The sound of any wailing siren simply travels further than any 2-tone siren. In comparison: I normally hear Prague's ambulances from very far away - usually around 10 - 30 seconds before I even see the ambulance.
Still, the Whelen Martin Tone has something calm to it and probably is a nice siren if you don't need to grab too much attention or if you don't want to disturb too many people (as to compared with the regular wail and other tones) 😄 I do love the variety that the Whelen sirens brought to some of Prague's ambulances!
