If you frequent the trails near Lady Bird Lake and Longhorn Dam, you’ve probably noticed major construction over the past year. It’s all for the new wishbone-shaped pedestrian and bike bridge—a $21 million project designed to offer a safer, more scenic route across the lake.
The bridge will feature three 24-foot-wide paths that converge at a central plaza, complete with shade structures, benches, and lighting. Originally slated for later completion, the City of Austin says the project is now 10 months ahead of schedule and should wrap by the end of 2025. This new route offers a safer and more enjoyable alternative to the narrow sidewalk along Pleasant Valley Road.
